Blog 4 - Mind Tools

The “Vroom-Yetton-Jago Decision Model” was the article that seemed most important. The first step in decision making, is one has to remember if the decision should be made from an individual or a group. When making a decision with a group you need to follow three main factors:
Decision Quality is how important it is to come up with the right decision. Subordinate Commitment is how important it is for the team and others to buy into the decision. Time Constraints is how much time it will take to make the decision.
There are three different styles to follow in the decision-making: autocratic, consultative, and collaborative. These types should be used on new situations or on ones with unusual characteristics. All in all, consultative or collaborative style is most appropriate when: needed information from others to solve a problem, problem definition isn’t clear, team member’s buy-in to the decision is important, and there needs to be enough time to manage a group decision. As for the autocratic style it’s most appropriate when: there is more expertise on the subject than others, there is more confidents about acting alone, the team accepts the decision, and there’s little time available. This article will help in the process of teachers and I working together to have something accomplished with in or out of the school.

Blog 3 Buying a Laptop

I will be looking for the business traveler type of computer. I will need my laptop for the classroom, at home, and the lake where I expect to be every weekend. I will need something portable and easy to carry around. I will be looking in the thin and light category. The screen is only 13 inches but the size should be big enough to work on. It will be easy to port around, and it’s made to be moved around. I will be looking for an Intel Core i7 because even though it will take more power, I will usually be around a plug in. It also has great high-end graphics/gaming performance, which could come into use when I would like to relax and watch a movie. I have decided to buy the Apple MacBook Pro. It has the Intel Core i7 Processor, 13.3’’ display, 4GB memory, 500 GB hard drive, and it weighs only 4.5 pounds. My ending total is $1,424.99 without tax and shipping.

Blog 2 - Daily News

Jaycee Dugard was only 11 years old when she was kidnapped while walking to school. Phillip and Nancy Garrido were her kidnappers. She was kept in a hidden compound of sheds and tarpaulins until she was found in 2009. The Garrido’s kept her for 18 years. During those 18 years she had been beaten and raped. When she was only 14 she had her first child in the backyard. She said that she felt relieved that she was not alone. She did have another child but it was not stated in the report when or what she had. Jaycee never lost hoped because of her children and thinking of her mother. Last month the judge sentenced Phillip to life in prison and Nancy was sentenced for only 36 years.
This article could help show parents to make sure their children are safe going to and from places. I feel as if people really do not care how they treat people or care about what they do to others. I do hope that Jaycee and others that have been abused can overcome what these ugly, mean, and disturbed people have done.
